Fashion imagery

Some hallmarks of "soft grunge" include: the usage of studs, platform sneakers, spikes, floral patterns, flannel, Jeffrey Campbell shoes, band t-shirts, chokers, Vans, Converse and black clothing.

Bands and singers associated with the soft grunge or pastel goth style are Avril Lavigne, Lana Del Rey, Arctic Monkeys, and Sky Ferreira. Bands such as Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and Nirvana are not considered soft grunge by most, instead falling under the more traditional grunge label.
